Wonderfully done. Especially in the colored versions, the dark shading adds a lot of athmosphere. For the other seven, will you be using episodes I, II (and possibly III) as well, or are these only based on the original triology?
...
From the top of my head, I actually can't think of someone worthy enough to be on there. Insert Jar-Jar joke here.

OT only.
So far the list looks like:
Han
Luke
Leia
Chewbacca
Obi-Wan
Palpatine
Vader
Thrawn
Boba Fett
Imperial Guard
But I can be persuaded other ways. Let me know if anyone's missing that someone really wants to see...I'll consider it while I do a few more.
Thanks for the comments mahjqa.

wow. These vignettes are pretty cool.
The only thing I find a bit odd is that the blade of Luke's light saber seems to begin right after it left his palm as if there was no electronic stick generating the blade.
Leia and C3PO would make some awesome vignettes.
A startrooper, and an ewok (@__@) would be welcome too. One with Luke on a speeder we see in Episode 2 ( or 5 if you count the prequel trilogy ) could be really cool and have a great composition with the head of the speeder overlaping the layout like you did for Luke's light saber and Han's gun..
The difference of saturation between the foreground and the background highly emphasize the focus on the characters.
How have you done the original inkings ?

poi: I wouldn't drop it into the PS forum if it wasn't PS This is pure tablet work...foregoing the pencil stage and doing line roughs right off the bat.
I've got a lot of photo references and a distinct inspiration from Travis Charest and Tim Bradstreet.
The original files are about 17 inches in height.
C3PO? I thought about doing one vignette with he and R2D2...Definitely a consideration..thank you.

DarkGarden: Obviously you worked them in PS, but I wondered if you used some brushes ( for the dusts, scratches and texture in the backgrounds ), the pen tool ( for the background behind the emperor ), and in which resolution your did them.
A resolution in inches says nothing without the DPI resolution is it 72, 96, 150, 300 ?
A picture of Luke with the helmet he wear in the X-wing could be cool too.

Fantastic work, all around - even for you.
My only critique is that Palpatine's hand seems a little akward. In addition to being physically akward, it also changes the posture enough to break with his personality even. I would much prefer to see the hand (at least somewhat) palm down, as if he is ready to strike with his lightning.
Very strong, very striking work. It's nice to see you do this kind of thing.
As for the list of characters, I'd love to see all the ones you've listed for the alliance, but C3P0 and R2 would be great too. Maybe you could work them into the background of someone else's scene? They could be fit into an Obi-Wan or a Leia scene easily enough I think.
For the Empire, I would *love* to see Tarkin. Thrawn isn't high on my list at all. A stormtrooper would certainly be cool, but if I had to choose between a stormtrooper and an imperial gaurd, the imperial gaurd would top the list. Boba Fett is essential, of course.

Poi: quote: in Episode 2 ( or 5 if you count the prequel trilogy )
Regardless of the prequels, the original trilogy was *always* numbered episodes 4,5 and 6.
For the record...

poi: Since I mentioned they were for print, I assumed people could dig that they were at least 300 dpi... Yes the Emperors background was roughed in and then cleaned up with paths...the rest is simply round brushes, an eraser, and patience.
DL: I knew you'd give the most spot on critique.
I agree on the hand, but I wanted to move away from the trembling old man feel of Palpatine and give him a bit of clutching strength. I'll honestly think about changing it, as it seems to change him up a bit in my mind too.
Another vote for C3 and R2...I might be doing them as an addendum piece...shhhh.
Oh, and what do you say to a guy who means to type Grand Moff Tarkin and instead types Admiral Thrawn?...You say "Nice job, Pete"...heh. Tarkin it is and was.
Bob: Thanks for still being here. I know there's still quality and worthwhile folks when I see your name pop up in a thread. (of course you're following Jamie...but they can't all be wins....meheh)
Thanks for the crits and time, folks. It helps more than you know.

CPrompt: Right now I'm leaning toward two separate prints. Five Rebels, and Five Imperials (including the above list...and yeah yeah Fett isn't technically of the Empire...but stooges count
Once they're all relatively complete, I'll show the horizontal layouts I have in mind.
Each individual will probably be about 10 inches in height at the finish, so they should make fun wall pieces.
We'll see.
Fett's definitely in...as for Aliens and Droids....I see a bit more work ahead for me
Thanks for the encouragement.

wow, GREAT stuff DG, love 'em. my only crit would be that han's skin tone is a bit dark. the shading on the one of luke is just gorgeous, totally creates a mood.
as far as characters, great list. i think boba fett could be really cool, and you hit pretty much all the other major characters. only two additional ones i can think of: yoda, with all the wrinkles and interesting angles i think your style would lend itself well to him. and lando, tho i dont know whether you'd put him on the imperial or rebel list depending on which film you're working from

truly great work DG! one thing though (a nitpick) - with han, the lighting is right front looking down somewhat, so why doesn't his left cheek show some highlight? it shows in the black/white drawing...
my favorite shot was r2d2 and c3po in the elevator - so my vote is for them

Well, Peter, I'd stroke your ego some more...but I think that isn't necessary.
Nice work.
As for the Emperor's hand...somehow, the thumb seems off...it is too "highly-angled", to be really threatening...looks almost more...hand-shake -like. Maybe angling it a bit more steeply into the viewing direction, so that it looks more like is it clutching, or grasping?
I'm actually with krets here - what would Star Wars be, without Jabba the Hut?
