Topic awaiting preservation: Domain Alias and Emails

Hi All,
Just having a bit of a problem. I have one domain domainONE.com which currently is hosting a website and most of the emails. Domain2.com is currently redirected to domain1.com through the domain registry place.


Now they want to have emails @domain2.com and redirect the emails @domainONE.com to @doman2.com.

So.. what i have done is set up domain2.com as a domain alias of domainONE.com. So if you goto either of these pages it shows the same webpage and doesnt change the main domain at any stage which is perfect!

Also when you send and email to something@domain2.com, MOST times it realizes its the same as something@domainONE.com and sends it through, but half of the time it fails and reply's with an error that the email doesnt exist.

Anyone have any idea why this would happen, or if there is a better way of doing this?

Obviously i could host basically a mirror of the website at domain2.com, then just redirect emails as required - but ive heard of issues with search engines and mirrors? Also there is actually a domainTHREE.com which is pretty much redundant, but an email is still in use, so the email has to be redirected to domain2.com.

Okay, a domain alias has nothing to do with an email alias.

First of all:
I assume the hosting provider is also providing the email addresses. If this is true, and they are using the <ServerAlias> directive for the virtual domain, then you need to also set up the virtual email addresses.

For example, using postfix on unix:
edit the file /etc/postfix/virtual
add the new email addresses
example:
address1@domain2.com address1@domain1.com

restart the mail server: #pkill -HUP postfix

This should ensure that the virtual email addresses should work.

Mmm, the domain alias is pretty much the same thing as email alias. It seems the delagation of the nameservers hadn't fully gone through, so for some reason it was getting occasional errors. Guess i should have waited the full 72 hours. Seems to be fine now
