Topic awaiting preservation: Trying something new

I've rarely created art for the sake of it in Photoshop. Tonight, I was feeling creative, and I decided to try out an idea I've been wanting to do in watercolors for a bit. Somehow, I ended up with this :



I'm not even sure why I went out and found the poem by Emily Dickinson (one of my favorite poems actually), but it felt right.

Just offering this up for opinions, I was messing around and don't think I'll change anything to be honest, but maybe for the next one...

IXI, I first ran across the poem when I was a senior in HS (eek! Almost 20 years ago now) and I was writing a term paper. My topic was "Death in poetry" and discussed the various ways death was presented in poetry. This poem, Tennyson's "Crossing the bar" and John Donne's (I think it was him)"Do not go gently into that Dark Night" (bah, been a long time since I thought of that title) were my favorites and the ones I enjoyed analysing the most.

Maybe I'll make a series of images then, and chose different poems depending on what seems to fit the best. Although, I think I'd have to look into copyrights and whatnot for the poems. Somehow, I don't think these are in the public domain, but I could be wrong. Hrm.

Anyway, I have always enjoyed this poem (and anything by emily dickensen really), and I like what you have done with it here.

Interesting shapes, and very nicely laid colors.



{{edit - also, as far as I understand, any poems of such an age shuold be in the public domain. It is only specific publishings thereof that would have a copy right - the actual original content should not.

Ahhh.. Thanks, DL! I just could not remember the poet's name. For some reason I had John Donne on the brain for that one, probably because I was looking though the poets on the Liteature Network online website and had read some of Donne's last.

After doing this piece though, I'm seriously considering getting my tablet out again (I have an old Graphire one) and trying it out again. I didn't have too much success with it on my first attempt to learn, but after attempting to make some more "sweeping" strokes using my trackball, I'll give a tablet a shot again. Maybe now that it'll fit in more with what I'm trying to do, getting comfortable will be easier.

both pieces are lovely, but i like the second one better. the layout seems more.. um, solid(?) and the colours are prettier. and the poem in the second one fits the image perfectly.
