On October 10th I fly out to Ft. Drum in New York, Shortly after that, I fly out for Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared, but I'm leaving with 6 of my soldiers, so I guess I'm more worried about them than about myself. Besides, my mother worries enough for all of us.

I don't really want to hear about the politics of this war. I have enough with my friends asking me 'why did I have to join the Army?'. I knew what I signed up for when I did. About that, at least, I have no reservations.

Anybody have any tips for going in-country? Tips for Mob? Kind words?

I'll be gone for 18 months, I'd return on April 6, 2006.... that's a long time to be away from home..

Gonna miss the Asylum..

Petskull,
I know I haven't been much of a friend these past few years and that we haven't spoken in an exceptionally long time, but you were a dear friend to me in highschool and you will be in my thoughts while you are gone. I wish you the best, goodluck, and thank you for having the courage to do what you are. Take care and please keep us updated on how you are doing.

As long as you do this for reasons that you fully believe in you won't get any arguments on the politics from me.
I admire a person that is able to put him- or herself on the line for their beliefs!

I whish both for a quick resolution of the whole situation "down there" as well as the best of luck to all of you that in one way or another are involved in it.

Good luck, be safe, and take care of your buddies!
See ya when you get back.

That aside, you take care and volounteer for nothing

Petskull will probably have at least some internet time, I know my friend has been able to keep in occasional touch with the rest of our guild while he's been deployed (he's been to both Afghanistan and Iraq now, as well as injured in the line of duty) so he can keep us up to date.

Petskull, I dont' know you that well, but thank you, take care, and safe home.

Wow... thank you all for all your kind words and good advice...

'La Tribu' threw me a huge suprise party last night and most all of my friends were here. I didn't even remember that I knew so many people!

'till now I was plagued with thoughts of failing my soldiers.. I realize now that I've got dozens of people supporting Me. It's quite comforting...

Here's what I got so far on duty in Iraq-
* Don't drink water that doesn't come from your chain of command.
* Stay away from gatherings.
* Keep your head down.
* Shoot, Move, and Communicate.
* Reload whenever possible.
* Keep your weapon clean.
* Cover your face with a hanky.
* Write home a lot and keep pictures.
* Don't look scared in the street, look confident and aware.

Don'cha dare touch my pills. Shell-Shock's a doozy...

Hi Petskull,

Altough I might not know you that well, I see no reason not to miss you and think of you.
In contrary to what some people said earlier, I don't think there's anything wrong with doubt (as long as you're not in a fighting zone, that is).
I wish you all the best, and take care of yourself.

And please remember: whenever you get the feeling there's no choices left, there's always the choice of perception.
