I have had a couple questions on my mind lately. There just seems to be a trend of things in the world as of late called, Stupidity. Yes it is has infected the surrounding populace and is even now trying to infect the mind of every person who we deal with. This trend must stop and therefore I would like to see if we can compile a list of things that we want to get rid of... A, "This has got to go!" list if you want to call it that. I am sure that many people here have ideas of what I am talking about and think it might be the source of some highly intellectual conversaion...

With that said, I will go first...

Thing that must go: Stupid Drive up Attendants
Reason: There is nothing more annoying than going to a Carls Jr. or McDolands and dealing with a Stupid drive up attendant. The conversation starts out quite intelligent as they ask for your order, however it goes downhill from there...

Me: I would like two Double Cheese Burgers and that's it.

Attandant: Alright I have two Cheese Burgers...

Me: No that's Double Cheese Burgers.

Attandant: Ok, I have one Double Cheese Burger...

Me: No Two I want TWO Double Cheese Burgers.

Attandant: Ok, that's two Double Cheese Burgers. Would you like anything else?

Me: I make refrence to the "and that's it." portion of my origonal order.
No thank you, just the Double Cheese Burgers.

Attandant: Ok, would you like a drink with that?

Me: Once again, I make a refrence to the "and that's it." part of my order and the "No thank you" from the last question.
No, just the Double Cheese Burgers.

Attandant: That will be $3.17 at the second window.

Me: Thank you

At this point I drive forward knowing full well that they got the order wrong. I wait till I get to the window and am presented with the total again. At this point the conversation takes another turn.

Attandant: Ok I have Two Double Cheeseburgers and a Side of Fries.

Me: No, I just want the Burgers. No Fries.

Attandant: Oh, sorry let me take that off.

Me: Thank you.

Attandant: That will be $2.11

I hand over the money and get my order. At this point I am still pretty paranoid about the whole experience and sure enough, when I open my order it is a Cheese Burger and Fries. At this point it is time to take drastic measures and get out of the vehicle to return the misstake to the manager. When you do this be sure to find the one dressed in the most "Formal" attire.

That is my thing that must go. Maybe it was because that is what happened today when I went to get some food or maybe it is just be cause I have no point and am rambling. In any case hopefully with the completion of this list, we can help remove this "Stupidity" factor or at least isolate it to some deserted island somewhere in the middle of the ocean where they cant bug others.

I can assure you there's an equal amount of idiots on the other end of the drive thru speaker as well.

Case in point:

Me: Welcome to KFC can I take your order?
Them: Yeah, can you tell me how many pieces of chicken are in a 15-piece bucket?
Me: *silence*

Me: Welcome to KFC can I take your order?
Them: Yeah I'd like a blah, a blah blah, and some blah, to go.

If that last one doesn't seem strange, think about the situation just a little bit.

If someone is my 'boss', this person;
1)better know more than me,
2)should have some training in being a boss,
3)has to have a spine (unlike a jellyfish),
4)needs to know the rules of the company,
5)must listen first, yap later.

I'm working with a boss who has never been a boss, has schooling no higher than 11th grade, is in a bad relationship with a schitzo receptionist (with whom he fights with in front of employees and guests). I can't tell this guy anything because he won't listen and has no idea how things run in my department anyway. He comes up with ideas about things that are not even from this reality, but takes these thoughts and just 'runs with them': [?LOOK! I've got a handful of beach sand! This means we can finally build the red cardboard house! Drop everything that you're doing and let's do this!?] *WTF are you talking about?!*

The thing that must go.

Me : You don't need to install any software, to go online with the Router. Just connect to the Router either per Cable or Wireless.
Woman : But the driver-thingie won't install!
Me : There is no driver required. *pause*
Me : What kind of Router do you have, exactly?
Woman : A Fritz!box thingie...
Me : This here is Siemens, not Fritz!. Please contact Fritz! for further help.

I had a similar problem with, of all people, the IT Manager at an exclusive hotel, having requested a callback regarding an upcoming event for which we had been contracted to provide a technician and several PCs.

I won't go into detail as the conversation lasted for quite some time, but I was hoping to confirm that it would be possible to provide a broadband connection in one room (which would be home to the conference office) and have another room patched to the main hall where we would need to network two 'show' machines to the 'speaker-ready' room.

This is simple enough, but it is surprising how many hotels (and we are talking about the sort of places you need a mortgage to stay at) host conferences for organisations with sophisticated IT requirements, but have inadequate or improperly implemented systems and staff for such a purpose.

Anyway, having eventually been obliged to explain each and every detail of the event brief, I was told by the polite but confused IT technician, "oh, yeah - I can make it so they can all see eachother.... I think."

I got to meet their IT techie before the install, and it turned out that he was moonlighting as an IT manager whilst working at the same hotel as the Head Waiter. A pleasant enough chap, but with no idea whatsoever about the vastly expensive system installed throughout the hotel. His job went as far as phoning a company in Japan (JAPAN?!?) and they would enable individual rooms for broadband as and when needed from an office on the other side of the world.

The poor fellow didn't know what the patch panels were used for, let alone what to do with them. Another technician and I ended up hijacking their patch room, and we took extra time during a stressful install to do the hotel's work.

Oh yeah - this happens all the time with so-called conference hotels. We usually just end-up trailing our own ludicrously long Cat5 cables from one end of the hotel to the other. It seems stupid that a multi-million pound conference centre/hotel should operate to such a shoddy standard that client's contractors have to run around with cable drums and endless supplies of gaffer-tape, installing their own temporary infrastructure.

Maybe I've missed the point, but my life would be so much easier if someone, somewhere, had put a little more thought into things before throwing huge amounts of money at them. The waste of resources is astounding.

Currently I work on the Service Pack 2 Technical Support project for Microsoft. There have been a few things here that seem to be reoccurring and should... I mean Need to stop. This goes with agents and customers alike since sometimes there is no separation in stupidity.

Let me illustrate.

For agents of other companies, Service Pack 2 does not cause a monitor to not turn on. This was perfectly demonstrated by a Dell technician when he called with a transfer telling us that after installing SP2 the Monitor would not power on and that it was the Software's fault. I have two words for this technician, Hell No. The call became quite interesting when my agent had to explain the difference between Hardware and Software.

Another thing that is bothersome and right down annoying is the amount of people who insist that SP2 is the most buggy patch in existence. This is untrue, and you may ask how I know this. Well fact of the matter is this, People are still able to call up for support and get an answer WITHIN 10 minutes of waiting on hold. If it were a big problem, the calls would never end and you would never be able to talk to a technician. Think of it this way too, the whole world is installing SP2 and you are still able to get the support you need to remove the spyware causing problems.

Lastly is stupid agents, the kind that don?t like to use the tools they have been taught and given. It got to a point that I decided to post a picture of Bart Simpson writing words on a chalk board that say over and over, "I will check google before asking stupid questions." I mean come on, if you are a technician you should know where to look for an answer... Gotta prune the ranks I think.

All in all, SP2 is a good program and is well built. There are OTHER programs that have issues with it but SP2 in it's entirety has no problems from what I can see....
