I can't for the life of me figure out why the layout is so broken in IE5/MAC. Can someone help me?

well... I don't have a mac at hand to test, but I'd start with fixing the broken xhmtl.
Correctly closing all tags might just do the trick.

Could left: 50%; be the problem?
Many people use text-align: center; on the object containing what needs to be centered, and margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; on the object itself.

'pears to be all better now. What did you do?

I took a look at it this morning, saw the same xhtml problems as Tyberius (css validator wouldn't even consider it with the xhtml problems - I hate that about the css validator!), saw how much code there was and sorta, well, found I had other pressing things that needed my time, so sorry for not following thru.

Anyhow - seems to be loving Mac IE 5 now. The positioning anyway. Problems remain with the drop down menus. Oddly enough, either the background to the drop downs isn't opaque in IE 5 Mac, or the page text is above it in the z-index. Whatever - you can't read the menu text because it gets jumbled up with the page text.

Since that last bit is awfully confusing as I re-read it, I provided a screen shot for clarification.

To be honest, I don't even recall what I did. Messed around with a lot of different code that night & got it to worked good enough. I know it isn't valid XHTML & that there are still a few issues (like the drop down menu background) which need some attention, but all in all it is presentable enough.

Thanks for all the input!
