Yup, you read it right, this months contest theme is games.

Any kind of games. From the computer games (from Pong and Pacman to Doom and Final Fantasy) to the analog kind (Chess, Rock - Paper - Scissors, Bridge, Monopoly, Basketball, Playing hard to get), anything goes.

The usual applies: No recycles, and keep the discussion this thread and the sigs in the other one.

Bring it on!

hey... at least take the time to build up that "Jung" text . I'm sure it can be done. If you play your cards right, you only need to use a couple of colors (maybe 8 or so) in the animation, so you'll have plenty of frames to animate.

(Yup, sue me. I'm a "quality over quantity" type of guy )

Jung: Nice sig. The antialiasing on the font looks a bit weird though.
Actually you're getting on my nerves as I wanted to do a Tetris sig where the pieces would fall and build a shape with my name.

Skaarjj: Really nice sig. The colors and typos works like a charm with the Asylum. The only cons is the difficulty do distinguish the figure in the middle of the 20 facets dice.

I X I: good idea, but white backgrounds are difficults to tackle with with the dark color scheme of the Asylum.

mahjqa: I wonder if you made the appearance and disappearance of the letters in your SEGA sig by hand or if there's some kind of magic trick. I'm not talking about the rotations, but specifically about how the white and blue bands go. Whatever, it rocks!!!

outcydr: try adding in a few more frames to smooth out the animation a bit, it's looking kind of jumpy

something I like doing when working with rotation is take the number of frames you have for the rotating action and divide it into 360 (or 180 depending)

pay no attention to the jaggies

the IXI in the center moves 9 degrees over 20 frames, making for a smoother animation

(I'm sure you already knew all of that, but just in case)

By hand, wasn't any other way. I just started out with the full letter, then cut it off part by part. After that, I reversed the animation. Not really that hard, just a bit work-intensive. The rotation and zooming was done with [edit>transform].

IXI: I have happy memories of that skiing game. Can't you do something with the big grey monster?

EzRa, I dig that pixeled sig you made.

Outcydr: [Filter>blur>radial blur is what you're looking for, I think. Or, for an even better result:

1) put your bottle in a SQUARE canvas. Fill the background with #2B0404, and merge the bottle layer with the background.
2) [filter>distort>polar coordinates]. Setting: rectangular to polar.
3) [filter>stylize>wind].
4) [filter>distort>polar coordinates]. Setting: polar to rectangular.
5) you're going to have to cut out the background of #2B0404 to make your animation transparent, though. I recommend [select>color range].

If you want know what polar coords does I'd look it over either at guru's or the help manual... What it basically does: it folds a square space to a circle, like this.

If you have any more questions, just ask.

However, this thread is for the monthly sig contest we have. This month's subject is Games, read the first post for all the info. If you want us folks to review your sig, just post a thread of your own.

I dig your sig, though. One thing that could spice it up is some nice gif transparency, as the forums here don't have black as a background color (although it may seem that way when your monitor is set too dark)

Tao; that one's even better!

Jung; Working big and resizing down is often good (if you make small mistakes nobody will notice after resizing) but since you're emphasizing the low-tech graphics of the game, hard pixel edges would emphasize that.

then again; if you really want to go low-tech you can add scanlines and stuff. Don't mind me, just tossing out ideas.

I like your Atari console Jung, never had one myself though. Do you find that ImageReady is easier/better to use than Animation Shop in PSP?
I had never ventured into ImageReady untill I was encouraged to do so by some inmates here a couple of years ago, that was a bit scary

An awful lot of submissions... and so far I like each and every one of them. Picking the best is going to be tough. I'm keeping this open for submissions, officially 'til 0:00 AM tonight (European time) but most likely I'll start judging at about 11:00 AM tomorrow, European time. If you still want to submit something, better hurry

cheers tao,

that was a fun part, actually - i hadn't implemented the PHP rotator before, so it was an enjoyable challenge.

of course, it leaves me a little frustrated when my online hands beat my real world hands... but at least i win every time!
