Topic awaiting preservation: YAY! Got a Vaio! (Page 1 of 1)

This is my first Asylum post (actually my first anything) post from my new laptop! Its a Sony Vaio VGN-S260. I love it! I'm toying with the idea of putting gentoo on it and dual booting. My only problem is they didn't include a Windows CD! It came preinstalled with Home edition and I have a product key stuck to the bottom of the machine. They also included a recovery program that backsup the whole HD on 6 CDs

When i got my seanote a coupla years ago I didn't get a windows cd, but a seanix cd with their distribution of windows.. set up for the notebook and with the seanix logo in the install screens... maybe you got a sony disk with windows in there somewhere?

I hate when they give you a recovery cd but not a windows cd... I mean you pay for a copy of windows when you buy the computer, so it's like they're cheating you out of your money

I didn't even get a recovery CD, just a program to burn my own recovery CD! Can I use the key on another persons home xp disk?

well, the way I see it (although micro$oft or the authorities might see it a little differently) you're entitled to your own copy of a windows cd.

I'm pretty sure your key will work with another cd, I mean if there are ways of getting illegal copies of the software to work without a hitch then a legal key on a real cd should be no exception.

personally, I'd have a talk with someone over at Sony about getting a windows cd.

Depends on how much they charged you for the copy of WIndows I X I... could very well be that all you paid for was a license under the auspices of *their* copy of Windows.

Well, I quite like it with the recovery CD. I formatted not so long ago and....No need for re-activation, new full subscription to Norton Anti-virus updates (effectively) and so on...

those are sexy looking little units! I'm a Vaio fan as well, let's have some pics, they so pretty, make Macs look plain.
