I made a new skin for 256b.com, and would like to hear your comments and critiques.
If anybody has a clue to fix the problem with the LIs in IE I'll be pleased. Otherwise I can live with that for a while since the content is fully accessible anyway.

I don't know yet if I'll let several skins available or only change it for special events. If I make a style switcher with a cookie thing, it'll certainly land in the goodies section.

Well, using Safari 1.2 the top menu each link is only visible in it's "hover/active" state.
When just viewed it's white rectangles only so visually it's not 100% accessible...

Other than that, well, looks ok, a tad weak on the contrast with the grey against the white bg perhaps. It could use a bit more "spice" methinks. Actually, the links page is probably the most visually "alive" page, it has something that draws the eyes, the rest is sort of... lacking focus.

The text might be a bit darker an i don't like white backgrounds personally but other than that i like it.

I've darkened a bit the texts.

DmS: that's for that kind of things I wish I had a Mac. I'll try to fix the navigation problem by positioning it in absolute and using a margin-top to place the maincontent below it.

Do you have an idea of how I could spice up the pages ?

The main pages are the home of course, but more important the demo sheets e.g. :

I'll have to think a bit about the spicing

In the meantime, I've noticed lately that coding towards firefox and this
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> doctype actually takes care of 99.9% of the mac troubles. Add a one step up in textsize to compensate for the difference in screen resolution on mac and you should be home free.

This example: http://www.dmsproject.com/test/all_css/ looks & works virtually identically in IE & FF on PC and Safari on Mac.

Cheers/Dan

[quick_post_before_dinner]

I've altered the CSS to bring the updates I talked about in my previous post. Is there still a problem with the navigation in Safari 1.2 ?
Thanks for the inputs. I'll check your page after dinner

Nope, no difference... Sorry

Just to clarify, if you think of the navigation as rollover images, it's the standard image that comes out as a white block while the rollover works fine.

no difference
You'd be CareBear if you could post a screenshot of what you get in Safari.

Yes, the navigation is the list featuring : home, random, submit, links, goodies, contact & the search form.

" who can resist becoming a CareBear "
Some one with a stone heart

Doh! it looks like Safari ignores the background-repeat:no-repeat; rule on the #navigation li a, and also all background rules applied to form elements but that's not really a surprise. Form elements are so/too? dependent of the OS and browsers.

Yes you are!
