I have a new client. The job involves the creation of a marketing campaign plan, some pr stuff, and the creation of a web site. Running the marketing campaign will be a monthly fee - kind of a retainer. PR pieces will be created (and billed) on a case by case basis. For the web site: I've read people around here say one should estimate hrs * bill rate = Flat Rate Total. Then, divide that Total by three. 1/3 due at the start of the project, 1/3 due at the mid point, 1/3 due at the end. That sounds like a good plan and I'd like to write that into the web site contract. My question is, how do you define "midpoint"? Is it a pre-agreed upon time (based on the hrs estimate)? Is it based on a specific task being accomplished? How do you write that into the contract? Advise, please. Thank you.
