As you state, they do work in Firefox in the first example, but not the second. Javascript is not my thing at all, so I can't help with that issue. As for the centering - you're already using tables with deprecated elements, so while there are plenty of better - standards compliant - methods, all you have to do is add align="center" to your table tag to center it....
