We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.

*peeks a boo while my brother and his wife are at the hospital to give birth to my first nephew*

I think you mean a 104 bytes Sierpinski gasket
I don't know for the other inmates, but splitting the DHTML forum may look like a noob/leet split. Nonetheless, and that's why I understand you train of thoughts, in the DHTML there's the regular JS snippetry ( for pratical use ) and the showcase ( where the freaks talk ).

So to sum up my opinion :

On one hand your idea makes sense,
on the other hand the Asylum has woked with a single DHTML forum for years,
on the third hand (?!) I love the "Javascript for freaks" name

[edit]

on the fourth (!!) hand, the noob/leet feeling the split may bring will intimidate the new comers.

InI: Yes we already knew. It's a boy. He'll be called ENZO. Btw, did you heard that an Felx/MJJ Prod has had a daughter ~2 weeks ago and called her CAMILLE ATARI

What this sounds like to me is a separation between, essentially, high and low skill level coders.

You know how so many people come to the asylum with such a humble, "The people here are amazing and I'm just a lowly newbie" attitude? It's an attitude that I don't like to see, because it indicates a feeling of inadequacy, that they think they'll never live up to the skill level that they see in some of the regulars. Of course, we all know that that's absurd, because that's how we started out too. It's important to make people realize that it's more than just a possibility that they can match the skill level of the few "gurus" we have around here.

This is something I usually see more of in the Photoshop forum, but it does pop up occasionally in the JS forum.

So, my concern is, a forum split like this would force people to choose between the "simple newbie forum" and the "awesome guru forum," and obviously most people - even if only through humility - will choose the former. This will perpetuate the feeling that there's an impassible gap from "newbie" to "guru," which is not the feeling that we should be conveying.

It makes me realize how important it is that the few "gurus" share their knowledge. What we ( as individual ) consider obvious may not be for the others.

InI: Yep, encouraging the advanced coders to publish a post-mortem and a if possible not obfuscated version of their scripts could be a significant step in this direction.

So, and as it's in the vein of one of Doc's homepage, I'll try to do a post-mortem of the 20 lines Shadow Of The Beast as soon as possible.

[offtopic] I'm not that happy, I haven't had time to buy him the awesome red plush toy girafe I've seen on a website. And it's not sold online. [/offtopic]

OK I haven't been around in a while but my fourpennth anyway:

I don't see the need for a new forum for "fancy JavaScript" mainly for the same reason as Slime's but aslo form the other direction such a forum would largely by used by a dozen or so high end users and people might look in to coo but wouldn't feel up to the mark of posting in there. Keeping it mixed means people will be less intimidated and more likely to jump in ask questions, etc.

plus, I might like to point out, that the current forum only sees posts to a handful of threads a day. How few would it be if we split those?
