That is an interesting conclusion, on that I would have never have actualized on my own.

Am I correct in reading this as those who favor religion favor being controlled?

I wouldn't have been as shocked had the margins been close... but a majority of issues can't be covered by a margin of error the gaps are just too great.

The findings are not that surprising, IMHO.

I don't mind christianity, but the ignorant dogmatic fundamentalist flavor that has become so prevalent lately is horrible. Thats all I have to say about that.

And is religiosity a word?

Anyway, the numbers you cited are, indeed, in the study, but let's not look over the fact that "Nearly half (44%) of al respondents agree that at least one form of restriction should be placed on Muslim American civil liberties."

That's regardless of one's religious affiliation or "religiosity". Look around you. 10 people in your office? 4 of them would like to suspend the Constitution (in whole or in part) for some subset of our citizens!

You are correct. Any way I look at these stats they are fucked up from head to foot. At the lowest level 30% of our country doesn't believe people should have the right to protest, and again close to 30% don't believe you should have a right to criticize.

If we average these numbers out I am sure both will come closer to 40%. Which is say 40% of our country thinks that we should all just shut up about our problems with the government.

I don't see how these sentiments can exist in the US. Not only is it our right to protest, it is our duty. Protesting is not a bad word, it means that the people are standing up and showing our government what we want. Everyone should actively partake in some form of protest, because no matter who you are there has to be something about this government that you don't like. We are not perfect. Don't fall into a trap thinking we are.

It really just seem fucked up...

I am really leery when it comes to statistics, because they can easily be swayed one way or the other. But I agree, if they government does something that you think is wrong you have the right and obligation to stand up for what you believe in.

Rather small sampling if you ask me.

Most surveys/polls are....

They most likely had to contact 10,000 people in order to get those 750. It isn't easy to get takers.

And from the Negetive rule (or something like that) most of them were very strong about one decision of the question posed. Don't you just love statistics?

It is hardly surprsing the religious are in favour of shutting people up. If they can convince the government to do it once, they then can make an argumnent for preventing anyone from criticizing religion.

There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.
