Topic awaiting preservation: Help, I've lost Internet Explorer ???

Sounds dumb I know, but let me explain...

I've recently upgraded my system and done a complete format-reinstall of WinXP. One of the first things I did (after installing the service packs) is install Firefox and set it up as my default browser. I then went about setting up my start menu(s) to my liking, removing the shortcuts to IE in the progress. Now however, I don't have any shortcuts to IE, and can't seem to figure out how to re-create one!

If I set my default Internet Browser back to IE, I can drag a shortcut out from the top level start menu, but the second I switch the default browser back to Firefox that shortcut opens Firefox and not IE. I could create a shortcut to explorer.exe, but thet automatically points to the My Documents folder, which isn't want I want. I know I can enter a URL into the explorer address bar and go from there, but that seems like a silly way to do things. Nor can I create a URL shortcut to about:blank cause that opens in Firefox.

I also searched for iexplorer.exe remembering that at I've often seen that process in the task manager when using IE, but windows search couldn't find that file anywhere. I'm thiking the IE shotrcut is basically just an explorer shortcut with some special command line argument, but all my google searches turned up endless trash about creating URL shotrcuts to work with IE - nothing on how to create shortcut to plan old IE itself.

Anyone know enough about windows to help me out on this one?

But honestly, why would you want to use MSIE?

well, my ie short cut goes to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

My guess would be to test site designs and other browser-centric things

Also try going to control panel, add or remove programs and choose install option components. See if IE is checked, if it isn't check it and hit next...

You con't really lose IE it is built into the OS.

Arr... That's the ticket!

I didn't have iexplorer.exe, numerious searches turned up nothing, and $SYSTEM_ROOT\Program Files\Internet Explorer\... was one of the first places I looked and it didn't contain any executable files. Well, untill I followed the above advice. Thanks Ensellitis, I must have unchecked that at some point in my "get rid of unneeded shit" quests when setting things up and forgot I'd un-ticked IE.

I also knew that I could use any explorer window (or folder view, or my computer window, or whatever you want to call it) and enter a URL, but that seemed like a dumb arse way of doing things. It also meakes it difficult to have specific start pages (I usualy set my start page to my local webserver public root) and the like.

And yes, the only reason I want it is to test webpage designs and for pages that still display incorrectly in Firefox (there seems to be a popular DHTML menu script used on uite a few sites that completly mis-places menu items in FireFox, thus having IE can make things easier when vewing such crappy sites).

No problem... I did that once or 50 times myself... =)
