Topic awaiting preservation: Place to find cheap computers

Alright here's the deal. I'm moving into a new place, going from a studio to a two bedroom. So while I'll have office space, I want to be able to listen to my mp3s and shoutcast streaming media in my living room.

I have a linksys wireless G router/hub for sharing my files (though I've had a problem filesharing over wireless, anyone done this well on the linksys wrt54g?). Now I'm on a budget so I've looked at the slim devices squeezebox but it's almost $300 and I figure I can get a cheap pc that can handle this with a wireless card for less than $100 right? (tower only)

Well besides some local classifieds anyone know of any good sources for sub $75 dollar pcs? (p700 and 256MB RAM, I'll buy the wireless card seperate) .I'm thinking this should be doable but not having luck so far.

Or anyone have any other solutions for streaming media to my living room?

I work for State govenment and we have amazing deals on surplused computers and monitors. Check around your location and I bet you find the same......

I used to do some work for City Hall and they basically gave away older machines.
They even collected machines from banks and things.

Some were really old. You, one unit keyboard/monitor and all.
Others were pretty decent newer machines.

Another thing is friends/family.
If I keep my ear to ground, I can find more than enough pieces to put a few together.
Seems like someone is always upgrading and doesn't know what to do with the old hardware.

A cheaper alternative, if you have a stereo system in your living room of course, is to get a headphone to RCA converter cable. It is rare to find them long enough though. What I used was a combination of the following.

Connect this (mini cable to RCA female) to the audio jack in your computer and use this (25' male to male dual RCA plugs) to extend it to an audio in channel on your stereo.

or grab yourself a TSR 3.9mm jack and a male RCA, a length of 2-core speaker cable, a soldering iron and some solder and make your own, like I do
