Hello everyone,

my beloved was sick the last couple of days, so I got time to implement something to make our work cleaning up the sink easier.

The SmartSink.
Displays you a thread and a suggestion what to do with it (the second button is the suggestion!).
It uses preloading and backgroundposting via XMLHttp so you need a 'newer' browser (FF, IE, or Opera 8 Beta. Actually both FF and IE can be older, but Opera needs to be very very new), but then it feels really really fast.

The textclassifier behind it is supposed to learn, so hopefully eventually it will allow us to automate the whole sinking buisness.

Feedback, Bug reports, and the like are always welcome.

So long,

you already got my feedback and bug reports via ICQ, so to sum it up again: nice work! ...sinking is much faster now

Cool idea, makes archiving so much easier. Only one click per thread, that's perfect.

I have no idea how the 'smart' part of it is supposed to work behind the scenes and know if the thread is worth keeping or not, and how you get these ideas in the first place... might have to ask you about that and/or look at the code some day

What it needs, though, are some statistics at the very top to keep you going and motivated!

Like

- Only 3.000.000 more threads to go
- 233 threads taken care of this week
- 78 of those by you (that's 33%!)
- ...

...just so you see some numbers changing for the better after all the work you've done reading and clicking your way through the sunken material. =) The third might involve a cookie, or could it perhaps be extracted from the admin log?

Anyway - good stuff.

OK after clicking around some more I do have a suggestion that might be impossible to implement: It would be nice to have a drop down menu at the top that lets you choose to only go through threads from a specific forum, like Photoshop or DHTML only. Or even a 'multiple select area' (can't seem to find the right word - <select size="10" multiple="multiple"> is what I mean) so you can exclude some areas you don't know much about (or aren't in the mood to think about... ). The hard part about that might be guessing the forums the threads came from, as I believe they aren't saved anywhere as it is....?

in general, a quite nice idea but i am afraid some forums will be unattended compared to other ones. i think the coicidience as it is now, is great
oh and about the statistics....i'd love to see that

I'm not a MS nor a ML, but the feature looks nice and quite usable. Indeed some short stats could help to see the end of the tunnel.
About the suggestion made by kuckus, it sounds cool in the sense that each inmate ( actually MS & ML ) is rather familliar/specialized with a given set of topics. On the other hand if the random thread doesn't match yours you can hit the "skip" button or refresh the page.

Definitely like the idea, and I like some of the suggestions made above (like kuckus' motivational statistics).
