Can anyone help me with this?
Our admin is evil (well, the rules he imposes are, he seems to be actually quite a good bloke), so of course, I've been trying to get round the restrictions placed on us. One of these is web browsing and ftp (download only) are the only 2 web services allowed. On top of that, we can connect to no site by IP address, and many sites are blocked according to domain name. Finally, we are only allowed IE.

I got round the final problem by finally carrying out something I had been planning for a while (install FF to a USB key, and boot it from there). However, I'm not sure how to get round the blocking services. I found a site with some proxy servers, did a reverse DNS lookup on the IPs, and found one with a domain name. I then set that as my proxy in FF...and it didn't work, saying it could not find the proxy (a different error from trying to connect to banned proxies). Now, I'm not sure what to do. The proxy server served on port 8080, which I'm pretty sure is not blocked (slashdot serves on 8080, doesn't it?).

So the next thing is to try and find one that servers on :80. Other than that, I really don't know. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Oh yeah, n.b. I'll be banned in minutes for this when my admin finds out, but I don't really care

My Website (finally! And yes, it uses frames and is evil, but, well, take a look, it's not as evil as you might think )

nah, port 8080 is unlikely to be open - I'd actually assume that no port is open, and all outside traffic goes through the proxy.
What about SSL sites?

What you could do is put up a (password protected!) web proxy script on your website, which hopefully you can still access from the intranet.
That way, at least you could connect to all websites out there.

so long,

Tyberius: talking to one of my friends, it turns out you're correct .
So, there's still a couple of options. Firstly, the cgi option you've suggested (I'll give it a go in a min) and also "corkscrew" which someone suggested to me. SSH via a webproxy, then x over ssh perhaps....
