We're embarking on a new multimedia project, and frankly we need advice on the tool to develop the project in. The project will be like an interactive multimedia based production which should include:

-Quicktime videos
-searching capabilities
-Animations and picture transitions.

We've bogged down the likely candidates for use down to Macromedia Flash MX 2004 and Director. The thing is that which one of these two tools(or any other multimedia authoring tool) would be most feasible for this project so that we don't waste time learning and working on what would turn out to be the wrong tool for the job.

What multimedia project is it going to be? Is it going to be online or on CD support?

Roughly:

- Flash is of course alright for animation and rather ok for video (Macromedia have just developped a new plug-in, I think, have a look... don't really know what it's about). Flash files are compiled and much lighter than Director files, so definitely go for Flash if you plan to put your project on the web

- I prefer Director big time it is, in my opinion, much more powerfull and easier to use (more instinctive) and more stable with video and sounds. Talking about sounds, it's much easier to synchronise sound and images with Director than with Flash, for example.
It is the best tool to use if you're making a CD-Rom, as far as I'm concerned. You can also download loads of usefull plug-ins to help you work better and faster (I'll try and dig some stuff out later if you wish).

Tell us a bit more about the project though, you'll probably get more relevent advice. This will also give the others time to tell me if I talk crap

Hope this may help...

Cheers

I would have to agree with kimson, even though I don't know my way around Director.

Flash rocks for the web. If your project is for the web use Flash. If your project is being distributed via CDs - thing about Director.
