Well with my return to the net and my humble crazy home of Asylum .. I figure why not start up my 'what would you do?' again .. so without further adue .. here is your situation:

Given Scenario:

You have been diagnosed with a severe form of cancer .. to make matters worse .. the doctors have estimated there is only a 30-40% chance that any treatments they give you will be successful .. and of course .. and if you know anyone that's ever been through radiation/chemo .. it truly hamper the quality of life for the duration of your time with the treatment .. the doctors tell you .. you have only about a year to live without the treatment

What would you do?

If you take the chemotherapy .. you run the risk of making your last year on Earth miserable since the odds are pretty heavily in favor of the treatment failing .. or .. do you accept death as inevitable and try to spend your last year as healthy and happy with friends/family as you can?

I've got kids, so treatment for me, a 30-40% chance is worth gold to my kids and I owe them that.

I never take death lying down - I've beat it so many times, nothing like a generous 30-40 % chance would cause me to even bat an eye - give me the chemo.

Given the senario you outlined I too would jump at a 30 to 40% chance of survival with the chemo. I think I would do the same even if the odds were shortened a lot more.

Well, I have seen what Chemo does to people, so I think I would rather just get things over with. Since I am not married with kids yet, that would be my choice. But like Dms said, if I had kids, I would jump at the chance to stay here a while longer.

Again either way I would do whatever I want. Which, as Gideon knows, I do now. I figure I have to die sometime, somehow, somewhere, so I might as well have fun in the physical realm while I still can before I start getting my kicks elsewhere. As far as this scenerio goes the only differance between my life now and the scenerio is that I have knowledge of the most likely way of my death. So why not continue to have fun?

I would choose the chemo and do my best to remain strong in spirit. I also have a family that I owe that to. I would also want to be the best example I could be of living (and dying) consistent with the faith I cling to.

as for me .. yes I shall finally answer my own question .. having seen what chemo does to humans and with the knowledge that two of my own family members went thur chemo and yet mitosis occured .. and now rest in peace .. this question really is a flip flop for me .. I know I believe in the Power of the Mind and self healing .. but yet modern sience does give those like myself that feel strong about self healing theropy a greater fighting chance .. so I guess I'm saying I would take the Chemo but also take the time to surround myself with positive energy .. meaning living my life the way I have since I have come of age

I'm very intrigued by a few that responded with an 'obvious' answer .. ie .. 'not a second thought, chemo all the way' .. yes I see there are things to live for but what about living for yourself? .. please share your point of views further .. I enjoying trying to put myself in other peoples shoes

I think my answer to the situation posed was fairly easy to understand - never give up, when there is a chance.

I have beaten Death on a number of occasions throughout my life. If there is the slightest of chance (as there is in your proposed situation), then I don't hesitate to take it.

Yes, I have seen people lose the fight against cancer, despite chemo. I have also seen close family members survive it, through chemo.

Chemo is not an absolute guarantee of survival. The treatment (depending on what sort) can be very agressive, and certainly cuts down on quality of life during the treatment(s).

And though a remission may be possible without the chemo (though fairly rare), I choose that with the best chances - chemo.
