In my page I use Trebuchet MS for body text and Garamond for quotes.

I replaced designer on this project and client pretty much decided on the sans serif for body text. Does that mean that a serif font would work best for quotes? make them stand out?

Thanks!

no.

it's not a matter of a serif to counteract sans-serif.
the two are not complimentary in most cases. often, the mix can just come out ugly.

if a serifed font is to be used for the quotes, I would recommend Georgia, and no other.

There are plenty of things that can be done to make a quote stand out. Sometimes italics is appropriate (plenty of times not).

You can play with various sans-serif fonts. Play with things like line-height, letter-spacing, font-weight, different font-sizes, different colors, borders/backgrounds, etc.

A lot depends on exactly what role the quotes play throughout the site as well.

as it stands, the quote on that page is rather unattractive.

On your page I think it would be well enough to keep the quotaion tags (or whatever you call them"") and the width of your text as already done, but there's no need to change the font IMO; if you still think it should stand out more, change the font size by 2 or 3 pts smaller
