Yeahyeah. So: burst of inspiration. I don't know what I think about the result. I'm iffy; my art teacher is 'yay.' Actually, I like them. But I'm not sure if they're good. (ha, ha.). not a pity plea, I promise. Anyways. They are more versatile than what I was doing, which is good.

C&C would be greatly appreciated. Especially since next year I have to do my AP portfolio. And general help is required. Yup. Required. Some of these are finished, some aren't. I just threw them on all in here. I tend to be attracted to unfinished works anyways. They have more personality.

ha, ha, funny picture. if you turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise, it looks like they're having sex. I might checker the bottom so it looks like bedsheets, because it amuses me.

A series of pictures involving cutting and experimenting. Some inspired by an awkward relationship that had me confused in it, and confused after it and generally feeling incomplete. (ha, ha, again. yay).

Yay, symbolism. Anyways, the only real pencil-ey thing here.

Nevermind, I lied.

This would be the better results of my first time figure drawing. It was like 40 minutes, to Aretha Franklin (spelling). The other ones were the same, but I like these.

I abhor the idea of critiquing art...I mean it's ART - jeeeez. I had a literature instructor once that told me a poem (not by me) wasn't "deep enough" (for a critique assignment)...people like that make my eyes twitch.

To me I either like it or not, period. These I like.

So, my art teacher suggested I "make drawings," after seeing my previous stuff. So I did this. I made a drawing. Except I like doing this kind of stuff, with cut-up scrap paper and all. Anyways, evilscathing critiques would be awesome.

cbf, you have pretty solid work here. My fav one is the first,
my only advice would be is try to make more mature work.

Hehe, yeah I know it's a bit broad advice. But try to make your drawings look less like illustrations, if you know what i mean?

I know you are familair with many contemporary artists, take a look carefully and see what seperates their drawings from illustrators.

It doesn't necessary has to be a drawing from life by itself or completly an abstract piece.

Hans Bellmer Luis caballero are good examples.

I just absolutely *love* the things that you do.

just to be clear:

you have an amazing amount of talent.
you have a style that just kills.
your images all jump out at me in some way - they've all got something.

There are two main things that are lacking - in some cases severely.

In a recent thread that Ruski started with some sketches, I said that one of the single most imortant things to me, when I draw, is that I give the object(s) a sense of weight. That the objects feel as if they are actually objects, with 3 dimensions, and with an environment.

They don't need to be photorealistic, or look like they were made with 3D software - that's not the kind of thing I mean. They need to *feel* like they take up space and that the weigh something.

Almost none of these have that sense of physical grounding. None of them has a strong sense of it.

There is something to be said for light and airy, for soft, sketchy, etc. But they all beg for some sense of solidity.

The 2nd thing they lack is cohesion.

they all feel like they're going in several directions all a once. Not in a "representation of chaos" kind of way..just in a general unfocused, seacrhing for direction kind of way.

I think you can take your approach, and take your style, and bring it somewhere far more formulated. Take it somewhere that speaks up.

The last thing we need is a collection of statements on the lack of direction in modern american suburbia. And that is the kind of feeling coming out of these. Good work, but cliche in arrangement.

I want very badly for you to take the next step, and go beyond the quentin-terentino-esq short story outcome.

you've got the talent and the mind. and a good start...
