Topic awaiting preservation: Photoshop everything help (Page 1 of 1)

Hello all

I have recently taken over the advertising for my company which requires submitting completed artwork. The person before me was using Photoshop and I had intentions of using it too until I realised I dont think I know what I am doing very well at all

I have been using Publisher for my artwork which is fine but it doesnt have the finesse that Photoshop would.

Can someone please explain the layers to me? How I create more than one to appear over the top of each other?

I also need to know how to make a logo or picture background disappear so that you can see the background of the whole page?

Any help would be much appreciated

Oh, btw I have Adobe Photoshop 6.0 on my pc

I can certainly understand your situation - but you'd probably be better of reading the manual, or the online help.
There are some dencent 'tutorials' out there as well... I suggest you start with the 'hands-on tutorials' at the center button on the bottom of this page.

now to your questions: By default layers apear above each other, the upper layers being solid/transparent by wether there is something painted on their pixels. (or semi-transparent if you lower their occupacatiy). To create a new layer, you either hit the 'new layer' icon in the layer pallette, or you press ctrl-shift-n (and it's always a good idea to give new layers a meaningful name).

I'm not sure how you want to make a logo disappear - if you have a monocolor background, I suggest just putting a layer with that color over the logo. New layer, (rectangular) selection tool, edit/fill.

Yeah. As TP said, your situation is appreciable.

Howver, your questions are akin to saying "I need to drive my car across the state, but I usually ride a bike. How do these gear-things work?"

I would highly recommend 1) reading the manual 2) going through the tutorials that usually come on the CD 3) after at least a basic understanding is attained, visiting the Gurus Network for a good variety of Photoshop Tutorials.

To create a new layer, simply click on the "new layer" icon at the bottom of the Layers Pallette (or, go to the Layers menu and click on New).

It will by default be above the currently active layer.

As for maing something transpareant - there are a whole lot of variables involved, and you would need to be much more specific about what you're doing.

dummy1234: Have you seen if your company would pay for you to do a quick intor course? Rather thn yous tumbling around finding your way through PS it would be a more efficient use of your time to get brought rapidly up to speed.

There are cheap or free courses here in the UK - although I don't know where you are from its worth checking around.

as an aside, Publisher and Photoshop are not really interchangeable, Publisher is a layout program and Photoshop is a raster image editing program...
