Hey all,

Just got a new Compaq Presario R3000 delivered yesterday. The default resolution, by the way it come with XP, is 1024 x 768. So I wander on over to change the settings and it shows monitors 1 and 2, not sure why. The only difference in the title of the two monitors setup is:

1. (multiple monitors) on NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go 64M
2. Default Monitor on NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go 64M

I changed the setting of number 2 to go to my desired resolution, yet I cant get my laptop screen to represent those settings. I could not find a way to activate/prioritize my settings.

Is this just a cheap monitor that can't display a bigger resolution or is there a way around this? - Thanks

hm.........interesting. I think the NVIDIA GeForce4 has support for dual monitors so that might be why you see the two monitors.

As I have never had a problem with resolution in Windows, Linux is a different story. Check to see what the refresh rate is set to. If it something lower that 60 (I think it's 60) then it won't go any higher. Check to see what the monitor refresh rate is supposed to be an what it can go to.

Changing it to 75 might help.

Well the refresh rate wouldnt change. So um, I looked closer, tried disabling #1 and enabling #2. Didnt work really. Theres a faded checkbox there for making a certain monitor your primary or not. Which would be great if i could get it to be editable. I will take screenshots if anyone wants a visual situation.

It seems to me the compaq gayness to start with leaves at a sucky top resolution, but my relatively decent nvidia card allows for more? potentially? I will wait overnight for a solution i guess. Hehe, thanks - Ryan

Yea more than likely the monitor don't support more than 1024x768 because the card defintely does, I have one running on another machine and it will go 1280x1024.

yeah......bummer to have to say but, more than likely the monitor itself doesn't allow a higher resolution.

check the documents on the monitor itself just to see. Other than that......might be kinda s.o.l.

ah.......just found something. What monitor did you get?

check this page : http://reviews.designtechnica.com/review1769_specs8854.html and scroll down to Display. If you have the TFT monitor than 1024x768 is it.
