As stated in an earlier post i am running linux on an laptop, but since i this experiment is gone very well i want to do more with the laptop. So i want to do some web designing on it. I just don't know exactly which tools i do need. The next things are already installed: |

That should be enough. There are more graphic packages you could get, but for general purpose stuff The GIMP should be plenty. |

I've converted to linux 99% (still have a windows drive for world of warcraft =). Bluefish is very nice but a little quircky but nothing horrible. I expect it to get a lot more polish next time they release. Gimp is incredible. There are only a few things photoshop can do that it can't. and there is a LOT if can do that photshop can't. However Its a interface (though seriously improved in the 2.0+ releases) still has a very steep learning curve. One tip I find essential is the dynamic shortcuts. Mouse over any menu item, and then press a key combination like ctrl-alt-shift-p and it'll set that as the hotkey to that command. I've copied over the few PS ones I can't get out of the habbit of using. That makes the learning curve a bit easier. |

Check out the Eclipse IDE. There are Eclipse plugins for just about anykind of programming/coding you can imagine, and best of all it is free. |

I like Quanta a little better than Bluefish. Personal preference i'm sure. Other than what you have already, you should be fine. |

To flatten the learning curve when switching from Photoshop to GIMP, try GIMPshop. It's a patch that makes GIMP's menu structure more Photoshop-like. |
