Topic awaiting preservation: Login Problem in IE (Not This Site) (Page 1 of 1)

A client I'm doing some work for (same one with the flags from another thread) asked if I could help solve a strange problem they've encountered.

They've developed a site that requires a login and have recently copied that site onto another server. The old copy works fine. The new copy, however, has problems in IE. You can go to the login page, enter your information and submit it, but you're immediately redirected back to the same login page. Again, this is only the new copy and only in IE; all other browsers work fine. I've replicated the problem on my system and so has everyone else who works for said client.

The client has checked everything with the new copy -- the files are identical, the Apache settings are identical ... they can't figure it out.

Unfortunately, I can't provide a link to the site just yet for certain reasons, but I've looked through the markup and can't see anything unusual. I was just hoping someone else had seen a similar problem before and might provide a clue as to what to look for.

chances are, the session cookie is not being are not being carried through.

Anyhow, the real way to dig at this problem is to get a http spy (I've only used httplook, but I've seen a far better one at my coworkers workstation... can't remember the name right now) and look what's being send when you log in, what you're getting back, and what's being send again.
Then compare that to the old system.

Then fix the error ;-)

Is this forms based authentication or an .htaccess controlled login?
