That was said in my city, and the statement doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the dumb bastards clapping in the background after he says it.

Isn't propaganda a standard tool in modern politics? A large percentage of the population insists on being nothing more than feckless hordes. How do political parties reach them? I have always assumed it was by using propaganda. I am a bit jaded when it comes to this subject.

More importantly, it - once again - has nothing to do with anything modern.

It is a tool as old as human civilization. Is it actually a surprise in anyway to hear it acknowledged? Every nation runs its own propaganda, always has, always will. It can obviously be a negative thing in that it relies on and encourages the ignorance of the masses.

But....the masses are ignorant afterall...otherwise we couldn't call them the masses in the first place

Yup, it is as old as politics itself.

Only the technics have changed.

In other words, say something often enough and people will believe it is true, no matter how ridiculous it may have sounded at first.

That's what he's saying, right?

I don't know what is the most scary. GWB himself of the people not realizing the depth of what they just heard. GWB claims he's doing propaganda by hammering his truth.

It's good to have the quote of Goebbels in parallel of that Bushism on infowars.com

quote:
"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it."
Joseph Goebbels, Hiter's Nazi Propaganda Minister.

And if I were to go one step further:

quote:
"But the most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly and with unflagging attention. It must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over. Here, as so often in this world, persistence is the first and most important requirement for success."
excerpt from Mein Kampf, by Adolph Hitler, (1925)

What depth? Propaganda is a tool that has been used in all of our societies for as long as we have had societies.

Goebbels understood propaganda very well but so did Churchill and Roosevelt. Progaganda is just a tool for tools

The main difference is that they don't usually come right out and admit it. And, as stated before, people usually don't clap over that admission. Perhaps they were just following the little applause light.

Here in the US, Democrats and Republicans routinely refer to eachother's rhetoric as propaganda, and as such it has taken upon a negative connotation, at least in my opinion.

Why should we settle for propaganda anyway? I'm frankly tired of propaganda, fake audiences without real questions, everything choreographed down to most minute detail, nothing but infomercials, although rarely informative. It's a dishonest and deliberately deceptive practice perpetrated by a government which we the people are supposed to be in control of.

It has taken on a negative connotation in modern society, yes.

But it has always been there, and has for the most part been viewed as a positive thing.

"The systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause or of information reflecting the views and interests of those advocating such a doctrine or cause."

You have more of a problem with the negative connotations associated with propaganda then you do with propaganda itself...

Should we "settle" for it?

Of course not.

But it will never go away, and there's honestly no reason for it to ever go away.

More propaganda:

Pope John Paul II arrives in heaven.

St. Peter says, "Frankly, you're very lucky to be here."

Pope John Paul II says, "Why? What did I do wrong on earth?"

St. Peter says, "God was very angry with your stance on women becoming priests."

Pope John Paul says, "He's mad about THAT?"

St. Peter says, "She's furious."

He sure has earned the monicker Dumbya.

I suppose if one were to e-mail the white house the definition of redundant, the spam filter would eliminate it, would eliminate it, would elininate it.

Frankly, I prefer our crooked politicians, at least they can pronounce and use the Englsh language.
