Wow...today, I ran into something on the net that killed my FF - and I run it with Java, Allow DL, etc turned off, with various checkers, etc!

Whatever it was, killed my FF installation, in about 3 seconds!

Anyone know what it could be?

This has me pretty amazed, because I have been surfing with FF for a long time now - and though I have seen some pretty interesting stuff, I've never run into anything like this.

My ENTIRE FF install is destroyed - everything.

I had to DL FF again, and re-do the install - and everything is gone.

is something else gone too, especially TB ?
I've never run into something like this, though using FF since the early days of Phoenix 0.3

Do you remember which site lead you to the guilty script/applet/bast*rd ?

Some link hopping in Google - all of a sudden, some things went crazy with the window size of FF - and then it disappeared. Upon restarting, it asked what profile to use - but there was only one - default and everything was then gone.

Thunderbird seems to be ok.

How is it possilbe, that it wiped EVERYTHING!!??

Now I have to DL everything I had -and I have to re-do all my bookmarks (because they are gone, as well).

I did a full search of my comp - nothing.

Did you use the latest version of FF ?
The 1.0.4 fixed some critical bugs.

I've had FF go a bit weird a couple of times (though not recently) and have taken to backing up my profile and extensions for quick re-install.

Did you make sure you have no sort of virus on your computer? Though it seemed to me a website, it could allready be on your computer even before it happened. Though I don't know, after all, I aint a super-geek!

I recently reinstalled my firefox due to extensions. I simply had too many, some of which failed to install or uninstall. The reinstall worked great, letting some extensions actuly work. Though I'm glad I remembered to save my favorites before I did. I don't care about my saved passwords, cookies, history, etc.

So, remember to backup you favorites when your at a point you dont want to lose them. I'm sure most (if not all) of us don't do that, but if you don't want to lose em... *gets an idea for a new extension*

No viruses ( ihave done a complete scan), and no spyware, etc (also multiple scans).
And I had (and have again) 1.0.4.

I'm totally mystified as to what it was.

Do you remember the link you were visiting? It's possible there's an unknown Java vulnerability in Firefox... if you could report the link to them, possibly they could do something to patch the vulnerability.

I have Java turned off (as usual) - I don't surf many sites that use it much, so I leave it turned off.

This really has me spooked - never seen anything like it before.

I've been to sites that all of a sudden resize FF, but not crash it. That sucks.

Just in case you want to make a quick backup of your FF Profile, you can use this handy tool.

Hey, thanks for the BU tool! NIfty...it did happen to find my old profil, but labeled it as "corrupt" - wow!

The malicous code must be some sort of JS - I now have a JS script blocker, that I have to allow for each website.

Nifty.
