Topic awaiting preservation: XMLHTTPRequest

Has anyone tried this in a non-Cold Fusion way? I've been a big fan of Google Suggest, and would love to implement something like this in a PHP/MySQL format.

There are a ton of librarys that you can make use of to work with Ajax, do a search for ajax php library and you will come up with a bunch. This will help take a lot of the work out of doing something like this. How the data is stored on the backend is pretty much the same as you would do it anyways.

Not much changes in when using this methodology except how you look at your data being returned and displayed, and the librarys can help to make that nearly transparent. If you do some searches for Ajax you will come up with a whole lot of good resources that can get you started.
