Hi all! Stuck in the mud again... Just wondered if any of you uses SWiSWmax, and if you do, do you know how to link a swf file (made with SWiSH) with a simple database?
Basically, I've got the following issue: I've got a map of Europe on which I would like to display the clients of the company I work for. I would like to have a box with the names of the companies scrolling automatically, and when you click on one of them, the city and country where the company is based would be displayed at its place on the map.
This is not very important, but I'm just giving the context a bit.
So, I would like to have a simple database wich would be the source of any info displayed on my map, which would be much easier for somebody else than me to edit without having to open the SWiSH file.

I have made a lot of research on the web, but still haven't found a way of doing it. I know I could do that with PHP, but our server is not set up with PHP so I can forgive this solution, and there's a way of doing it with XML. I don't know XML, which is not a very big issue because I can ask for some help here in my office, but I would like to know if any of you have any idea of how to integrate all these bits together, if you know what I mean?

That would be great help Hope this jam is clear enough...
Cheers

definitely you need some kind of language to query the database. (like php/sql as you said)

i dont know about swish but flash cant query a database alone. it can however read XML files which could hold a database. if the content is static, which could be the case in your example, then export all the database into one XML file, read that in and access it using the standard flash XMLparser.

Thanks GRUMBLE.
So do you mean exporting my database in one XML file would be enough for Flash to read it? I assume SWiSH would do it as well, Flash and SWiSH are very similar and there's a mention in the help saying you can load XML from SWiSH.
How do I do that? Only by calling variables, or is it more complicated?

i dont know about Swish, but for flash, you have to create an XML socket object and then read in the file on that socket.

look it up in the help, there is a really good example on that, which you can probably copy+paste.
