Topic awaiting preservation: Performance Question

Hello,

I want to ask you, if these are normal numbers for a psd. I have got an around-30 layered image with this resolution 288x285x72ppi. I am using Photoshop CS. I have let Photoshop to use 270MB Ram. When I open this file, it takes a lot of time. Then it says that it uses all of the ram and about 500 MB of virtual memory. Is that normal for 30 layers with lots of transparency and masking? The file uses a few paths and I have deleted all additional alpha channels.

Or have I used some wrong settings somewhere? What settings could reduce the ammount of memory used? And what type of data in the working document uses the most memory? Is it the ammount of layers that makes the numbers go so high or the transparency? After all, the psd has just 12MB...

first of all, to improve the general perfomance of you computer you should try to not do everything 5 times.

I'm "still" using PS7 so I'm not sure I can be of any real help.

I found out so far, that those number probably are quite normal. Even while working with large photos from a cam (no layers) it used lots of virtual memory (300MB+). So I have to live with it.

The only thing I can suggest you is to Edit > Purge the Undo and Histories at times.
