Thought I would show you guys my latest project...

This is the first house I ever owned, so it's not (It has since burned down, but it IS real) a fake house.

I have been trying to keep it as close to the real thing as possible.

And that is my current progress. The reason I am doing it step by step is because I am planning on doing an animation when it is complete.

Awesome! I love pixel art. Need to practice more myself. My only suggestion would be to add some sort of logo and text to the insulation on the outward facing sides. It would be a nice detail. something like this.

Can't wait to see the animation!

That looks pretty good. Are you missing siding texture on the upper half of the house that was added on??

I have some suggestions: For the wood beam rafter area, you ought to gradiate your color usage so that outlines between wood that is distanced further apart uses a more contrasting color. Also, is your ceiling really like that: wood planks? Any further insulation you'd add?

I think Peppermint Pig is right, I don't think thats what ceilings are made of...

I remembered a few more things too. Normally the wood flooring is layed down after thy drywall (and roof) is done. Up untill then you should just have the concrete slab. However (now that I think about it) you might want to keep it in the order you're doing it so that its a more visible step for the animation. I don't know what kinda roof it has but I'm gonna assume it is shingles, in which case you should draw them in. Also as a final step you need to add windows and doors to their respective portals.

Oh and you nailed the insulation logos!

Ahh, there we go. The siding makes more sense now with that nice looking trim! Still would be nice to employ some depth-contrast coloring. It's too bad the walls go up before we can see the flooring go in more clearly, and should the bathroom parts go in before the flooring?? Tile/Linoleum go there?

Your attention to detail is very good with this work. I hope you continue to work on it and 'furnish' it

BTW, for an added challenge, you ought to have a cascading effect of sod rolling out to cover the dirt Might be more work than you went in on this for, but ehh.. worth it I think, and not to be a detail freak, but how about some proper isometric grass tiles

Cool stuff.

What do you mean by grass tiles?

As for the rolling, I want to try to keep the animation under 50kb, so I will see what I can do about that...

Roof needs details -- like slats or texturing. Besides that, it's cute and works well; a good foray into isometric pixel art.

I think it could use more detail though -- bring it that extra mile, and it will really show.

Alright, basically done now...

I tried animating the grass as mentioned by peppermint pig, but that made the file size over 120kb no matter what I did, so it was scrapped. This final one is right at 40kb... And I am using roughly 128 colors. All and all I am happy with this.

Yeah, animating the grass would really add up. Nice shadow work. By the way, here's an edit to show what I meant about the wood beams: By adding one or two colors to the document, or borrowing from elsewhere in the palette if possible, you can clarify the top wood beams with a depth=contrast approach.

EDIT: By the way, to save some file size, take the shadow over the dirt coloring and convert that to a solid slightly darker color. It should save you a few colors for the palette too, which could go a longer way towards shrinking the file size, that is, if you can get it into the 16 color range. It's a bit more work, but it is one way to really crunch file size.

Pretty good, but it bothers me that the pointiness of the top of the house isn't mirrored in the shadow. It looks like the shadow isn't updated properly when the triangular roof beams start appearing.

Yes, I saw that later on. It would have been even more amusing had he been animating the construction of a church.

Or were you falling back on your usual lowbrow humor, commenting on a homonym of "rood"?

Looking forward to the completed version, Ensillitis.

Ah, see, I wasn't familiar with the British term of measurement. I wonder how that came about. Oh yeah, that's why we have the OED... which says that rood is probably from the Old English meaning twig or rod, and also "measuring-rod" and "measure of land.' Interesting.

Although it was probably funnier before that explanation.

schitzo is right, they dont usually put wood up in the ceiling but they do lay some drywall up and then lay insulation down on top of it. Also the wooden floors should be off set sorta like bricks. To better show the passing of time you could also animate the shadow of the house passing and maybe a light that flicks on when the house is complete and the sun is down. I also think that if you can afford the file size i think that it would look rather cool if you speed up the animation and animate it in stud by stud on the inside.

Amazing pixel work BTW!!!!

Actually, the ceiling was wood, as was the attic floor, and th insulation was sprayed to the roof. You have to keep in mind that this wasn't a great house by any means. I started adding the pray insulation, which was a yellow foam, but getting the texture right was beyond my abilities at this point. Next I am going to add more "accessories" like my satellite dish, maybe the rake I never put away... We'll see how that goes...

Change the shadow??? It took me 4 hours to get that shadow right

The stud bu stud is a good idea, but that would have to be for another project since I did this in Paint, I would have to redraw every stud... I may do that though, you never know with me.

Thanks for the comments.
