Topic awaiting preservation: FireFox knows what I'm thinking (Page 1 of 1)

I had intended to search for song lyrics using the quick google search, but instead typed the song name in the address bar and hit enter. before I realized I was in the wrong field I actually got the lyrics I was looking for. so I tried several phrases in the address bar and sure enough I kept getting relevant websites. I guess the whole point of this post is to ask how FF is picking these sites. I assume it's like clicking the "I Feel Lucky" button on google, does anybody know more about this?

Indeed it is using I'm Feeling Lucky. Open up Firefox and into the location bar send "about:config". In the Filter: box, send "keyword.URL". There it is, the default behavior for what you type into the location bar (assuming you do not include a valid TLD).

Now for the extra fun - the "Search bar" is made completely obsolete by bookmark keywords such as this. When I want to search google, I hit CTRL+L, type in "? search terms here" and hit enter. When I want to search http://tfd.com/ (dictionary), I type "dict search terms". You can do it with virtually any website that has a decent searching function, and for the ones that don't, you can have google do it for you (e.g.: "? search terms site:whatever.com").

Firefox comes with a handful of them preset by default, just check out the "Quick Searches" folder in your bookmarks (right-click for Properties to see the keywords used).

(And go to View > Toolbars > Customize and you can click-and-drag the search bar into the box, getting rid of it )
