Topic awaiting preservation: What is wrong with this forum??

This forum shows me only Page 1 of 1, i cant goto the next page? This page only goes back to last month and the rest of 2005 arent in the archive.

What is going on??? Am i missing something.

Also is there any search feature to search all the posts I have made?

It only shows one of one...because there is only one page.

The ones that are not in the archive are in the sink awaiting archiving.

I remember pressing something and this page should up, it had an archive of all the posts I ever made! I don't know how it came up but it happened again... but that was the end! I think I got there from the search or somewhere...

I dont get it... other forum topics are showing data further back. Why leave out the data that really isn't that old - doesnt seem to make much sense?

You could just link page 2 etc to the sink if need be - would make stuff easier to find. I do have to say after beeing here for quite a while - for what seems to be such a simple and - cut-down - forum, its actually quite difficult to find your way around.

threads are moved to the sink when they've not been posted to in 90 days.

If you want something specific that old, you'd have to use the search anyway (or wade through approximatly 3000 posts ;-)).

Now, I admit that there's a problem with the sink - it's forever been growing at a faster rate than we've been able to filter trough it (on the keep, don't keep front). There is the ->smartSink which even without it's prediction allows one to sift through threads quickly, but I guess it's not a top concern for any of us. (Once you hit 'archive' in the SmartSink, the thread's moved to the 'right' archive).


I'll think about linking the archive to the forum, though - it's not that easily done because the 'link' is the other way around (the archive is kind of a vacuum-cleaner for the forum, not a bin the forum places it's stuff in... so the archive knows which forum it has to clean, but the forum doesn't necessarily know it's got an archive. And database lookups are expensive ;-) ).

Well is there a problem with this one though, because there is not 90 days back in this forum, it only goes up to half way through june which is like 45 days - half of that.

indeed, the thread live time at the Asylum is set to 45 days.

hmm... way too short if you ask me, i thought 90 days was short =/ just makes it feel less like a forum some how... oh well... if there was a "show all the posts I started" option then it wouldnt be so bad.

you can get at least the last 50 posts your participated in by following the back link on the title of your profile page.

Im not trying to bag the forums or anything, but I use tonnes of forums - and it really seems harder to find your way around here and do the simple thing - constructive criticism for any new revisions that may be in the works.

I had to disable the backlink search couple of months ago - spiders were following the link though the url was in robots.txt - and it's a costly operation for the server.

I have reenabled it - and it should get much faster some time in the near future.

Just keep on making suggestions - I'll eventually get around to take care of them. (best place for them is in ->grailTodo )
