Is your text becoming bold on rollover? such as a property on the a:hover selector? I wouldn't recommend doing this as the size of the font does change and this can cause effecrts such as you've mentioned. I'd like to reiterate Dl-44's point in that the user could also resize the font size for your page and teh results would be the same, it's always worth rewording or building a nav with felxibility of space in mind.
