These are comments made before the House of Representatives by Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.). It is a must read, or watch. Excellent.

So refreshing to hear someone speaking so clearly and truthfully. We need more politicians like this man.

Interesting article. Nothing really new, or innovative, but a lot of ideas and thoughts brought together in one document.

Unfortunately, Mr. Bush and his Administration, and the Religous Right, is not listening to reason, or logic, as many threads here have shown time and time again.

Just as there are those who still think that we could have somehow "won Vietnam, if we had just put in enough troops, etc" - there are those in power who will not be turned aside when it comes to Iraq.

We'll just have to make doubly sure that we kick them out in the next elections.

This is new. This is a senator speaking on the senate floor. This is not just some anti-war activist. This is a senator being critical of the president, congress and the war. We need more people to stand up and voice these opinions.

This is nothing new to the anti-war activist, but this is new for republican senators.

We need this war to stop, and we need to remove those who would continue to put our troops in harms way, as well as those who would bankrupt our country for their own self interests.

Not a Senator, but a Representative. If a Senator was speaking like that it'd probably make the news, but then again, you don't have Senators speaking like that. Most aren't smart enough to give a dialogue like that, and the rest are sellouts (IMHO of course ).

Ron Paul may have an '(R)' next to his name, but he is more Libertarian minded.

He's been against the war from the outset, and needless to say is considered an outcast in the Republican party. The GOP in his district actually ran a Democrat against him, which shows how much they want him out.

This isn't really new, I'm sorry to say - there have been other voices that have been outspoken about this point or that point in the article.

As I said - this time someone brought them all together.

I would like to think that there are still those in power who are capable of reason, of stepping back from madness, of saying "enough".

And there are - it is just that they are not enough, not yet. But one can feel it, the turning...the slow turn of the wheels.

I call it the Awakening of America.

Another reason this my not have hit the news, is that aside from a few cable news channels and the internet/periodicals, the broadcast stations are more interesting in a sensationalistic occurance or person (Sheehan, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Rove) than a reasoned person.

WS, I hope you are right. Every time our government does something totally inexcusable I feel the same thing in the air, but thus far, a week or two passes and they are sucked right back in to the bullshit. Perhaps with every occurrence the movement takes on more and more "permanent" members, so in the long run, perhaps we are making progress.

I do believe things are going to get much worse before they get better though, and that is where my fear lies. Dark days lie ahead for the US, and in the economic ream, because of globalization, it is going to have a dire impact to populations around the globe.

I don't think Sheehan was sensational, the media simply portrayed her as such, and then the "left", with their own agendas, grabbed onto her popularity, then the "right" counterattacked with "Camp Reality" (sic), then it spiraled out of control from there. The problem is the news does not cover the message in detail, rather they package it nice and neat for the American pubic to consume as "news".

I've read a lot of her articles and she is right on the money from what I can tell. Not the most eloquent of speakers, but she has only been doing it for a little over a year now. Here is the transcript of a speech she gave back in April.

In any case, Ron Paul will never make the news. He has been making speeches like this on the House floor for years, and everyone ignores him. Shame really. Then again, could mainstream America, those this clip needs to impact the most, even grasp what he is talking about? And if so, would they then allow themselves to see the truth -- to take the red pill if you will.

Wanting to believe in something is a powerful force, almost like an addiction, because it makes you feel good, proud, and once you succumb to it, the doublethink is hard to break free from.

Every rockslide starts with the first few pebbles...

I'm not saying that all of a sudden people are going to start realizing how stupid they have been - no, not that. I am saying, they will wake up to the fact that they have been used, and will react accordingly.

That will of course have its consequences.

At this point, I'm not sure where things are actually headed, speaking of America. That is hard to see, at the moment. It will depend on whether or not Mr. Bush and his Administration can spin things effectively enough. If they can, they'll squeek a way through, and things will get worse, until the next big crisis.

If they don't spin things effectively, then I expect the pebbles to quickly gather speed into a real landslide, and Mr. Bush and his Administration will find the next three years very, very uncomfortable, as they don't get any real chance to do the things that they have planned, and pass the laws that they have planned.

We shall see.
