Topic awaiting preservation: Multiple Paths on Multiple Layers

I'm not as well versed with the pen tool as I should be, and maybe I'm thinking about this all wrong.
I have multiple paths on multiple layers. I now need these multiple paths to be all on one layer, becoming one path or vector shape, so they can be all edited together, instead of editing each on separate layers. Any clue on how I can do this?

The best way I have found is to copy each one at a time and paste it onto a new single 'layer'
