there seems to be a hype about those number games called Sudokus lately.

yes, i myself am addicted to it.

at http://www.websudoku.com/ my best time is 6 minutes, which is still below the average.

who can do better?

How exactly do you play this game? My Gran's highly interested and I can't seem to find exact details on how you play it. Yeah, you fill up the box with numbers 1-9 or something like that - but, how do you knwo what numbers go where?

14 minutes 10 seconds.... I quite like them as well, especially while waiting for my train! I always carry a few of them with me in my handbags.

finding out what numbers should go where is the whole point of the game. from the websudoku site:

"Enter digits from 1 to 9 into the blank spaces. Every row must contain one of each digit. So must every column, as must every 3x3 square. Each Sudoku has a unique solution that can be reached logically without guessing."

Blacknight:

Niclaus Wirth (of Pascal fame) wrote a book in the 1970s called Data + Algorithms = Programs. In it is a description of a program called the Eight Queens Problem. It uses a recursive algorithm to place eight queens on a chess board so that no queen is threatening any other queen.

I suspect that this problem could be solved in a similar way.

probably but i have already thought of a algorythm for generating the sudocu. The only real problem is to generate them so that the user (huma) can solve them logicaly without having to try around. when i am back home i can post my ideas of the algorithm

Soduku? I haven't tried that before even though I've heard of it probably months before. It was a craze here in Brisbane. They even published so many of it on the newspaper.
