Topic awaiting preservation: How long does design take you?

And how many of those hours do you charge for?


Im just wondering, i know this can be very open ended depending on the job. Im not sure if im fast enough at doing what i do etc..

I'm not really the right person to answer your question, as I am learning/slow too!

But from the very talented people around me, I can see that a logo can take anything from a few minutes (bash it out) to a few days / weeks (dependent on other work commitments) - trouble is, as in this case, the "bash-it-out" one was favoured over the four/five painstakingly + loveingly 'created' logos...

So I guess it comes down to: what the client wants and how quickly they want it (until you get better/faster/more well known...?)

1. Find out what the customer thinks the job is worth.
2. Decide if it's worth your time.

Few job have an unlimited budget.

you want pixel or vectors with that file?

Depending on the job and the client:

A couple of hours to a couple of days for small and mediocre business. (The local bakkery shop, pubs bars etc.)
Some days to weeks for larger companies who already have an housestyle
For an complete housestyle which need to be used all over the company(branding) there is more time involved.

Be warned sometime there is some sort of deadline when the customer needs it on a special day (a confention, a presentation etc.
This is without print time which could vary from the next day until over on month depending very much on the type of printing you need and how many proofs you need to make.

Thanks all, yeh it is a very open ended question really! I do much prefer the website work, but still there is quite a bit of graphic design to go into it!
