Using it, but not on top of the 1.0.7 because some extensions are net yet adapted to 1.5.

All my extentions work!
I just love the drag-n-drop tabbing.

Plenty of extensions that don't work - most notably (for me) is Launchy. I am seriously bummed, and hope that they update it soon.
Other than that, so far so good =)

Well, one thing it did do is to break my quote button code...
But the rest of it I like much
Especially those now HTMLized error messages you get when a page doesn't load - much better then the old popups which always appeared when you were reading things in other tabs.

Yep, they are neat, and the Try again is an appreciable detail.

DL, have you tried this trick yet?
quote: Open about:config in Firefox, right click on the listing area, select New > String and then type in app.extensions.version as the preference name and 1.0 as the value. That it, you?re extensions should now work as expected!

lol - the one that appears second here was actually the first I submitted! The server took about 5 minutes to process it, after that I hit escape, replaced breakin with to break and submitted again.
The dreamhost guys should really do something about their server performance...

My suggested solution, for now, would be downgrading to 1.0.7. It works fine.

Wow, DL, I am not having those problems with the new version.
Are you sure it is not a conflict between FF and maybe your Anti-virus or something?

How would I determine that?
I am using AVG anti virus, and Kerio personal firewall. Everything has always worked fine, and I don't see anything that would tell me otherwise.
I may very well go back to 1.0.7, at least for now....

Well, one way to see if it is your AV and/or FW, is to disable/de-install the AV/FW, then try FF (kind of risky, though, if you are not behind a Router or Hardware FW).
My FF1.5 is not taking up much resources (looking at my Task Manager) and is not using 3~4 times more resources as other Apps that I have running.
I suspect that maybe the problem lies elswhere, and not in FF 1.5 itself.

Right - duh
I will give that a shot, of course, but the issue of it being a memory hog is much talked about at the support forums.
Problem is, the majority of the 'solutions' presented are things that i had already done by default anyway, and none have worked.

Ok, a short run-down on my main computer specs, and what I normally run on it, to give you an idea of what may be happening at your end :
Processor is an AMD Sempron running at 1.75 GHZ and I'm running 1 GB of onboard RAM. Nothing really hot - I put the computer together myself. Graphic Card is a Sapphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis.
I normally have 23 services running in the background, FF open, NWN running, and WinAmp with my favorite IR station going.
Normal RAM usage is around 250~400 MB - from that, NWN takes up the most of my resources. FF takes around 35k, when I look in the Task Manager. Processor usage ranges from low to high, depending on what I am doing in NWN.
I don't notice any slowdowns of FF - and I have a number of Extentions added (Weather, Gmail, Adblock, NoScript, etc).
I do not consider my system to be anything even remotely competing with present-day systems (but I am not sure what you are running) - so maybe your system is trying to run to much?

celeron 2.7 ghz, 512 mb ram.
Not cutting edge, but if a browser needs more than that to run.....
I have not, since installing 1.5, had any program using more memory than FF any time I have looked.

During crazy browsing sessions, opening many tabs, FF1.5 is crawling until all the tabs are loaded on my laptop. Right now I have only 3 tabs and FF takes 45 mb !!

Yeah, it seems to take up more and more RAM the longer you leave it open, and it doesn't get less when closing pages/tabs. I just had it running with only one empty tab and it still stayed at 70 mb....
After closing that last one and restarting FF it's down to 27.
(And just for comparison, after starting it up and browsing to this thread, Opera is at 36 mb here. oh - and goes right down to 14 mb after a few seconds of inactivity. Nice!)

That is really strange behavior. My FF 1.5 runs at 35k. I can leave it open all day (sometimes I do), and it stays pretty much at the same level.
At work, on a really cruddy system, I normally have IE open for some interne stuff *bleh* and about 12 tabs open in FF, all day long.
No noticeable slowdowns, with a system much like what DL posted (at work). And that is with 15 apps running (like Outlook, OpenOffice, etc).
I'm quite mystifyied by the behavior others are reporting.

During some JS coding session with FF, it's not rare it takes up to 180mb of RAM. Ok I'm testing some 'heavy' scripts but still.
FWIW, I haven't closed FF since my last post, and browsed a few other pages and now it takes 60mb thought I'm back to the same 3 open tabs state I was before.

It is now running at 37k.

I think I beat a record now. AFAIK I haven't closed FF since the last time. I surfed and coded a bit ... and now it takes 355 Mb!!
After a restart, and opening 3 tabs FF take 26 mb.

I've had that same problem with earlier versions of FF. This release seems to have fixed it for me. ATM, I have 13 tabs open and it's been open all day and is sitting at 50mb. Prior, it was around 180mb.
However, I also implemented some of the things they suggest over at MozillaZine: Reducing memory usage prior to moving to 1.5. It helped.

Odd. My specs are even worse than DL's (P4 1.7 gHz 256 mb ram... God I need to upgrade), but I don't have too many performance issues with FF. I usually have mine open all day, and I don't notice much of a slowdown. It is possible that I'm just so used to everything crawling on my computer that I never noticed. I just got in and only started up FF a little while ago, and it's at 48 mb. I'll have to check again tomorrow after it's been open all day with the million or so tabs I usually have open.

Make that 37 MB. Oops. Still running stabile, however. The only thing it doesn't seem to like to do is update the Extentions
