Topic awaiting preservation: Computer Problems

I am currently trying to fix my in-laws IBM Aptive 2194-17a and have hit a brick wall. Everytime windows starts to load the computer restarts itself in a continous loop. I have used my own computer to reformat the HDD so that has bee ruled out.

Has anyone ever heard of this or have any ideas as to what it might be?

I am probably wrong on this one and don't know much about computers, but did you happen to install iTunes lately?

Which Windows is it running. When Windows 2k and XP encounters an error on booting, there is a setting under the Start Up and Recovery that says "On System Error - > Automatically Reboot".

I think it was Wes that had this probably at one time. I think his resolve was to re-install Windows. More than likely it is having some problems with a piece of hardware if the HD has been reformated.

If you have some other pieces of hardware that you could start switching it out with, it might tell you which it is having the problem with.

In the future make sure this is turned off. Bad feature.

Cannot swap anything around as everything is on board

I'd suggest hitting F8 to get yourself into the windows boot menu, and from there selecting safe mode (doesn't need to be with networking or anything).

Then go to the control panel, and into the system area. Go to the 'Advaced' tab and click on the settings button in the 'Startup and Recovery' area.

Inside this, go down to the 'System Failure' option group and uncheck the 'Automatically Restart' option. Save, reboot normally into windows, and see if you're presented with a Blue Screen of Death, now, instead of it just restarting on you. If you are, write down what it's telling you, and drop it in here, and we'll see what we can do from there. Although I'll warn you now that the above advice is mostly likely what's going to result: backup the necessary data, and reinstall windows.
