A bit different this time, but still related to the same applications.
It's simple, Stanford got themselves 3d scanning technology.
Since then, they've scanned about "anything" they could find, and masterminds have envisioned 3d faxes (one of the big projects).

3d faxes needed 3d data compression. That's Scanview and the real live Michelangelo models.
And possibly, reconstruction, in case of data loss.

Reconstruction has spawned researches.
And the following page shows some results of these experiments, and some other stuff, all impressive (I've posted it a couple of times in the past already,
it seems to keep improving and evolving).
