Clasic?
Creative Spelling is fine in informal situations but ..manually checking the spelling on websites is advised.
Or is that the British spelling..like "centre"?

I tend to browse with the browser window set to about 550x550 on a screen resolution of 1024x768. Even with the browser set to full screen, I'm getting a horizontal scroll bar with FF and the pages don't look very good at all at my normal setting.

I'm getting 404's for the "Home" and "Main" buttons. Other links give "This page under construction" page which is fine. I know you said the site is still under construction, but it's unnerving to get 404's some times and "Under construction" others.

I love the buttons - but they have jaggies at the lower left, and I'd personally prefer them to stay 'highlighted'.

I won't go into the content - except on the menu page there's a random 'ghj' on the page...

You have broken home links... actually, more links in the menu are simply broken... but I guess since you just started.
I suggest you replace the 404 error page with the page you have under 'dessert'

I quite enjoy the design, except for the blue link color (see contact)

so long,

A few updates done - taken a while.

still have not changed the content management system (notepad + non html savy user) to use lists rather than heading tags but that is the next step.

Need to change the font tho it just does not look right.

Still a work in progress - any comments appreciated.

Cheers

I only vaguely remember what the original site looked like, but I like this version. Clean and crisp, and I think it does its job well. In fact, just looking through the site makes me hungry for some good Italian food!

There is one thing that I do not like about the site, though: the buttons. Actually, there are a number of things I don't like about the buttons...

  • The text on the buttons is rather small, and though it is not exactly difficult to read, it's not easy to read either. And since the buttons represent the only form of navigation on the site, it would probably be a good idea to make them as easy to read as possible.
  • I'm not a big fan of the swirl effect on hover, but I don't think it's a deal-breaker either. What does bother me is that the hover effect does not seem to be consistent. I can't figure out any rhyme or reason to it, but it just doesn't work sometimes. I'm using FF 1.5 on Windows XP, if that helps.
  • The positioning of the buttons is not consistent. I mean this in two ways. Firstly, on the menu page the second button shifts down a bit, and on the wine page the second and third buttons shift down. Not a disaster, but not pretty. Secondly (and more importantly), buttons swap positions on different pages. That is, on the "home" page, the order of the buttons is menu, wine, press, images, contact. On the "images" page, though, the order is home, contact, menu, wine, images (and I'm assuming the last is supposed to be "press," because that's where it leads to).
  • Suggestion: why not call the "press" page "reviews" instead? "Press" just sound so... formal, I guess. Or like you're trying to spin something. The page contains reviews, so go the easy route and just call it "reviews."

And a non-button-related (but still navigation-related) gripe: the image gallery. I love the images and think that they're a great touch, but the back and forward buttons jump up and down as the images change in size, meaning much moving of the mouse to get through the gallery. How about fixing the position of the navigation there so I can just keep clicking away?

That might sound like a lot of griping, but I really do like that site. Clean up the navigation issues and you'll be good to go, I think.

Oh, I love the rotating pics on the right--very classy. Being JS-based, they don't show up with JS turned off, which is not a tragedy in and of itself, but they do leave behind their borders as little white rectangles at the edge of the page. I usually surf with JS turned off by default, and at first I wondered what those little boxes were. I think it would be nice if the borders didn't show up as well with JS turned off (you could, for example, make the border part of the images).

OK, I'm done. Good work, really. I mean it.

Thanks for the highly positive (green pills?) and constuctive feedback SUHO

I was thinking the same about the buttons, the problem with the FF mouseover only working intermitantly is rather annoying - i am wondering if it is because the animated gif is set to run once and not loop? i doesn't matter as i am going to lose them i think.

The spacing between the buttons is caused when the text wraps to 2 lines and increases the margins between them. I was going to go with bigger buttones but at 800x600 and even 1024 x 768 they wouldnt fit. This si also why the font is smaller than i would like.

I may just lose the round buttons altogether.

didn't spot the press page issue - thought i had tested it - shows how a second pair of fingers and eyes help you see something obvious

I was just thinking the images page needs fixed foward and back buttons as moving your mouse is just plain annoying.
