Have you tried to create a [i]documentFragment[/i] to do all your magic and then append it to the BODY. That way you'll trigger a single big reflow instead of a lot of small reflows. Depending on how you touch/alter the pages you could even store their [i]documentFragment[/i] to restore it afterwards.
