I am going back to the concept phase with my personal site.

C&C are appreciated.

the image here looks quite cool, I like it. but how would this layout look like on a screen with a 1280*1024 resolution. dont you think it would become a little bit boring then?
just my 2 cents

He is a low quality test at 1280x1024 in FF.

It is a bit scrunched to the one side.

This might be fixed by adding a bit of a margin, or centering the content area in a similar fashion as done on mozilla.com.

The designs working fine in smaller areas, but when the area expands I run into trouble.

There are not a lot of elements that I am trying to display. Each page has about 3 to 8 paragraphs of text I want to put out there and not much else.

It is hard to make that work for 640x480 and also 1280x1024. Any tips on making that work would be appreciated.

I updated the above link.

This now displays the content centered in an area of 1276x886 which I have read is a very large viewing area.

Any comments on this display? Do you think that there is still too much white space?

640x480

that's like making it work for NN 4x

800x600 is the smallest I ever keep in mind at this point, and in many cases, I've been starting to use 1024x768 as my base even.

Now, on to the site:

1) everything seems rather disjointed. You have several completely different types of visual element that are kind of tacked in together, but have no apparent reason to be...

The odd typeface for the headers, the crayon-like underline, and the film reel look are all very distinct stylistically, and they really don't work together here.
You need to find a way to pull thos elements together - the film seems to be the strongest element, so basing the other two on that theme seems a good place to start. However, my first thouight would really be - what does a film strip have to do with this guys' qaulifications? Is he a film-maker, a photographer, an actor?

2) The tree background image. Again, it doesn't really relate to the other 3 elements, or to the content of the site.

Assuming for the moment that the particular image does fit, there needs to be some separation where the text comes into play. Creating a box with a faded version of the same image, allowing easier readibility would be my suggestion - setting it up so that the content area appears to be translucent over the background image.

3) COLOR!
The links and bold text need to break out of the monocrhomatic scheme, or else my eyes just want to fall asleep. A nice low-saturated blue would work well here.

I think this is a step in the right direction form your previous attempt. What it needs is a serious dose of visual cohesion, a dash of contrast, and a serious review of visuals vs content: make the visuals match the content, or the content loses focus.

As long as I am making progress. I am thinking that there will be a version 3 in the works sometime soon.

Thank you for the feedback it is really helping me to see where this all needs to go.

Here is a work in progress concept. I am trying to keep to a single theme here. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done. I am not very happy with the fonts at this point, and the menu needs a bit of work.

Just a little checkpoint as I doubt I will be doing more work on this tonight.
