AS2.0 is similar to JS2.0 but also w/o some features. Actually AS2.0 code compiles into exactly the same opcode as AS1.0 All the types in AS2.0 was used only for error checking at compile time (and there was no speed increase). AS3.0 is still at beta stage but already used by some people. It uses different virtual machine (which is faster itself) and uses REAL strong typing. Flash Player now is like Java VM or like .NET CLR. And I believe that next version of JS must be also VM based and use bytcode.
