Absolute positioning, IMO, should almost never be used, and should never be used for 'general layout'. It breaks the flow of the document, and on average causes far more problems than it solves. Get used to using the FLOAT attribute, and specifying as little as possible to define where your elements lay - you'll be surprised how easily they usually fall into place without fuss.
