How about this. Disable the wireless on the laptop and hardwire it to the router. Hard wire the desktop to the router and set both configurations to Auto Obtain DNS and IP's. Then do the ipconfig /all and see if it is getting the correct settings. If you get a 192.1.168.XXX address on both, then at least the router is working correctly. Ping a website by name and see if you can get a reply on both laptop and desktop. If you can, then you should be able to go anywhere via a browser.
