[/quote] A sem-important note on that issue: Marriage in the american colonies was for several decades a purely civic issue, preformed by an appointee of the courts. The church did not get involved until significantly further down the road. In addition, Marriage has existed in society in one for or another since before the judeo-christian god was written about, and has existed with and without religion in all human societies.
