Topic: Splash Page (Page 1 of 1)

I added a splash page to the site.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I am not a fan of splash pages period. It's a great picture and all but when I land on a site the first thing I want to know is that I am indeed at that site and what there is to offer is all right there in front of me with easy to understand navigation. From there I'll look around.

I hear you. I guess it's a teaser in a sense that says "there might be some of photos of interests inside".
my current home page doesn't do that....so unless i redesign the site completely...oh well....i guess it's normal for a first site to go thru dozens of iterations before saying ok, "it's ready"

I agree. Splash pages in general are a very bad idea. This one, while it is indeed a great photo, contains no information whatsoever. It is the kind of thing that is just as likely (if not moreso) to make a visitor simply leave than enter your site.

I disagree on both counts.

1) again, the photo is great, but the photo alone does not actually say anything about what else there is to come. OF course, adding text would still leave this as an unneccesary splash page that is a deterrant rather than an benefit.

2) your current front page *does* very much say that there might be some photos of interest inside. How? you've got a great photo as your header image. You TALK about your photos right there in your first paragraph. You have a header on the right handside that says 'photography' and lists some categories.

You did this the right way the first time - stick with that!

I thank you and value both your opinions.

At this point I'm sort of frustrated that I can't get the site to look the way I would like to - I realize my significant limitations at web and graphics design.

I have lots of good concepts in my head but it seems I need to compromise on my vision, i'm constrained by what I can realistically do - not from a technical point of view, because I know I can depend on others like you guys to help me along - but more from a creative perspective - I can compose a photo properly but designing a "striking" looking site is not within my capabilities and never will be - it's not in my genes.

Right now I'm just going to leave the site for a little bit - hopefully just adding some new content (photos).
