We had an 80 kb PHP file contain a large array definition, that was parsed on every page ( to save database lookups, actually. PHP parses every piece of code on every request...). Turned out, 90% of the load the Asylum produced was parsing that stupid php file. Removed it, deferred the database lookups for when they're actually needed ( usernumber => cellnumber, we can do that when you actually visit a cell ), and boom, we dropped way way below the 'you are using to much resources' stats dreamhost does have. (And yeah, the were definite about us needing to remove this). That was months ago though... probably more than a year, but I'd need to look it up. so long, ->Tyberius Prime Loading...
